LILY'S NEW CD, "THE HABIT OF A FOREIGN SKY", IS FINALLY AVAILABLE ON ITUNES AND THROUGH AMAZON AND CD BABY!

Lily Neill is influenced by an enormous variety of styles, from Rock to Classical to the Eastern music traditions. From this has emerged a style of playing that is a reflection of her many influences and which continues to evolve. Check out Lily's work on "The Habit of a Foreign Sky", released in 2011, and "Without Words", from 2004, as well as on some of the albums listed at the bottom of this page on which she did studio work.

"Without Words", Lily's debut album, is a culmination of several years of studio work and showcases a broad range of stylistic influences. Featured on "Without Words" are instruments as diverse as the Japanese Koto and Jushichigen, Electric Bass and Guitar, the Irish Bodhrán as well as others. Irish and Scottish traditional music and modern compositions are featured along with Neill's own original music, creating a fresh interpretation of the harp. Upon its release, "Without Words" received an honourable mention as one of the Irish Echo's top albums.

"Lily Neill speaks to us without words in this gentle and gracious recording. Once again the magic of the plucked string surrounds us and brings us to a place of special resonance and peace. There is something universal in this sound: no less than three of the tracks, for example, bring the Japanese Koto and Irish Harp together as if they were long lost cousins. A shared universal sonic gene comes through her fingers as if the music inside her is truly ancestral".  Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, November 2006

Lily's second solo album, "The Habit of a Foreign Sky", picks up where "Without Words" left off. Lily has spent the past much of the past few years on tour, performing in cities as diverse as Washington, D.C., Dublin, Kazan, Vilnius, Helsinki, Paris, London, New York, Moscow and St. Petersburg. This extensive travel has shaped the tone of Neill's new album, making it a truly original work and a kaleidoscope of music that redefines harp playing.

In addition to the solo tracks that make up most of the album, Pianist/harmonium player Timo Alakotila, double bassist Ilkka Heinonen, violinist Kukka Lehto and cellist Vesa Norilo join Lily for several tracks and the result is a powerful, bold combination of musical colours. From Neill's original compositions - including the swinging "Life on Wheels" to the striking, empyreal "Beneath a Balcony" and an audience favourite, "Johnny" - to Irish and Finnish dance tunes, the full-on, sensuous Finnish tango "Rannalla" and Phil Cunningham's glorious composition, "Lady Ramsey", which was recorded by the late, irreplaceable Finnish rock and metal producer T.T Oksala, the thirteen tracks of "The Habit of a Foreign Sky" comprise an album that traverses the uncharted range of the harp and demands attention and exploration.
